February 24 is Mechanics' Day
February 24 is Mechanics' Day, a date officially established in 1974 by the National Secretariat of Labor and Social Security of Argentina, in recognition of the essential work of automotive transport mechanics. The idea of creating this date was proposed by Adolfo García, General Secretary of the Union of Mechanics and Related Workers of Automotive Transport (SMATA), and was quickly supported by the union's leadership.
Since 1947, the date has been adopted as a day of paid rest for mechanics, guaranteeing a break for these professionals who play a crucial role in the maintenance and operation of transport vehicles. The initiative aimed to value the effort and importance of these workers, who are fundamental to mobility and transportation in the country.
Thus, every February 24 is dedicated to celebrating and recognizing the dedication and technical knowledge of mechanics, highlighting their contribution to the automotive sector and to the efficient operation of transportation.
