February 12th is the day of Saint Eulalia
February 12th is the day of Saint Eulalia, celebrating the young martyr of Barcelona, recognized for her courage and unwavering faith during the persecution of Christians in the Roman Empire. At the age of 13, Eulalia faced torture and martyrdom without renouncing her faith, becoming a symbol of resistance and one of the patron saints of the city.
According to tradition, the saint was subjected to 13 tortures before being crucified in the shape of an X and beheaded. At the time of her death, reports claim that a luminous dove emerged from her body, symbolizing her soul.
Saint Eulalia is also associated with miracles, such as the miracle of the flowers, in which bread hidden in her clothes turned into flowers to escape the vigilance of her father, and the miracle of the water, when she made water gush from a dry spring to help the population.
The date is marked by religious celebrations in Barcelona, including processions and tributes in the Basilica of Saint Eulalia, reaffirming her legacy of faith and charity. Her image is often represented with the palm of martyrdom, an X-shaped cross and a dove, symbols of her holiness.
