Equal Access to Health for All: why is it celebrated on December 12?
December 12th is Universal Health Coverage Day. This date was established to raise awareness about the importance of universal health and equal access to quality health services for all people, regardless of their economic, social or geographic status
The idea of universal health coverage has gained traction over the last few decades and has been widely recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO). In 2012, the UN General Assembly officially declared December 12th as the International Day for Universal Health Coverage. The goal is to encourage countries to work towards achieving health systems that ensure accessible care for all.
