November 30th, Cities for Life
November 30th, Cities for Life Day, was established to promote the defense of human rights, especially the right to life. The date is an initiative of the Network of Cities for Life/Cities Against the Death Penalty, which brings together municipalities from different countries that oppose the death penalty and fight for the promotion of life and human dignity. Cities for Life Day was created in 2002, in a context of growing concern about the application of the death penalty in various parts of the world. The choice of the date, November 30th, is a tribute to the day on which, in 2007, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution calling for a moratorium on the death penalty throughout the world, reaffirming the commitment to human rights.
