Celebration of Solidarity and Life: why is it celebrated on November 25?
November 25th is Voluntary Blood Donor Day in Brazil. The date was established by Law No
13,589, of January 4th, 2018, as a way to recognize and value the importance of blood donation and encourage the population to participate in this act of solidarity. The origin of the date dates back to 2004, when the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies established World Blood Donor Day, which occurs on Today4th. However, Brazil decided to create a specific date to highlight voluntary blood donation, aiming to raise awareness about the constant need for blood for transfusions, especially in emergency situations and for medical treatments.
