November 21st is World Fisheries
November 21st is World Fisheries Day and was established to highlight the importance of fishing for global food security, the preservation of aquatic ecosystems and the well-being of millions of people who depend on this activity for their livelihoods. The date was established with the aim of raising awareness about the challenges faced by fishing communities and the need for sustainable practices that protect seas, rivers and lakes, in addition to promoting the responsible use of fisheries resources. Fishing, both artisanal and industrial, plays a crucial role in the economy of many countries, especially in coastal regions and poorer areas. World Fisheries Day also aims to draw attention to the environmental impacts that threaten fishing, such as overfishing, pollution and climate change.
