November 10th is Keratoconus
November 10th is Keratoconus Day, with the aim of raising awareness about this eye disease, which affects the shape of the cornea and can impair vision. Keratoconus occurs when the normally round cornea thins and takes on a conical shape, which causes visual distortion and sensitivity to light. This date seeks to promote knowledge about the causes, symptoms and treatment options for keratoconus, such as the use of special contact lenses, corneal rings and, in more advanced cases, corneal transplant. It is also an opportunity to support research and disseminate information that helps patients recognize symptoms early, since diagnosis and appropriate treatment can significantly improve the quality of life of those living with the condition.
