November 3rd is Cuenca's Independence
November 3rd is Cuenca's Independence Day, the day on which, after an uprising led by a group of patriots, Cuenca proclaimed its independence, beginning a process that eventually contributed to the liberation of all of Ecuador. Cuenca, located in the southern region of Ecuador, was one of the cities that joined the independence movement that swept Latin America in the early 19th century. Inspired by other revolutions and the Declaration of Independence of Guayaquil in October 1820, the city of Cuenca began to mobilize to free itself from Spanish rule.
