October 25th is the feast day of Saint Frei Galvão in Brazil . This date honors the first Brazilian saint canonized by the Catholic Church, Saint Frei Galvão, who lived from 1739 to 1822. Frei Galvão, born in Guaratinguetá, São Paulo, was a friar of the Order of Saint Francis and is known for his pastoral work, his virtues and, especially, for his miracles. He founded the Convent of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception in 1790 and is remembered for his devotional practices, including the making of small papers with prayers, known as “pills”, which he distributed to the faithful who sought healing and protection. These pills became a symbol of his intercession and are associated with many reports of miracles. Frei Galvão was canonized in 2007 by Pope Benedict XVI, consolidating his legacy and importance in the history of Brazilian spirituality.
