History of Filipe Carvalho - Minas Gerais, Brasil
Madrid Community Day, on May 2 , celebrates the resistance of the people of Madrid against the French invasion in 1808. The events began on March 23, 1808, when Napoleonic troops led by General Joaquín Napoleón Murat occupied the Spanish capital, generating tension among local citizens. This episode is considered the beginning of the Spanish War of Independence. After occupation and mistreatment by foreign troops, the population revolted, resulting in violent clashes. In memory of the heroes of that uprising, the date is celebrated annually, now including a variety of cultural and official events across the region.
