The International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict
The International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict is celebrated on June 19 . This date was established by United Nations General Assembly Resolution 69/293 in 2015. The main objective of this day is to raise awareness about sexual violence as a tactic of war and promote accountability for perpetrators. Sexual violence in armed conflicts is a serious violation of human rights, affecting mainly women and girls, but also men and boys. It involves a wide range of forms of violence, including rape, sexual slavery, genital mutilation, among other forms of sexual assault. The date serves as an opportunity to highlight the need to prevent and respond to sexual violence in armed conflicts, as well as to support and protect victims and survivors.
