National Women's Day: why is it celebrated on April 30?
April 30 is Women's Day, which highlights women's rights in society and their fight for equality, in parallel with International Women's Day
Instituted in 1980, in honor of Jerônima Mesquita, a leader of the feminist movement in Brazil, it seeks to combat sexism and other forms of gender discrimination. Although it is often overshadowed by the commercialization of International Women's Day on March 8, its main purpose is to promote awareness of women's rights and their contribution to society.
