Farmer 's Day, celebrated on September 21 , recognizes the importance of farmers to the Brazilian economy. They represent around 24% of the national GDP and provide between 25 and 30 million direct jobs. Farms, large or small, drive the urban and rural economy by providing essential food and raw materials. Modern farmers constantly seek improvements through technology. This date also honors the cultural contribution of farmers throughout the history of Brazil, from colonial times to the present day.
