Technology: The world's first computer bug.
The First Computer Bug in the World
An insect that became history
In 1947, engineers working on the Harvard Mark II found a moth trapped in a relay, causing the machine to malfunction. They recorded in the logbook: “First actual case of bug being found” — the first real bug in history.
Why we call it a “bug”
Since then, any software error or hardware malfunction has been called a “bug”.
Even with computers millions of times more complex, the idea remains: failures happen and are part of programming.
Lesson
No code is perfect – errors are part of the process
Documenting problems helps solve them
Patience and attention to detail are essential
Why this story matters
The first bug was not just an insect, but the beginning of a universal language in programming.
It is a reminder that bugs are not personal failures, but opportunities to learn and grow as a developer.
