April 23 is Scout
April 23 is Scout Day, and honors millions of young people and adults around the world who are part of the Scout movement. The date was chosen in reference to Saint George's Day, the patron saint of Scouts in several countries, including Brazil and Portugal.
Scouting, founded in 1907 by Robert Baden-Powell, is a worldwide educational movement that promotes the development of children and young people through outdoor activities, teamwork, leadership and community actions. The motto “Always Alert” summarizes the Scout spirit of being prepared to help others and face challenges with courage and responsibility.
Currently present in more than 170 countries, Scouting values principles such as respect, honesty, citizenship, friendship and care for nature. In Brazil, it is represented by the União dos Escoteiros do Brasil (UEB), which organizes events and social campaigns to celebrate the date.
