April 16th is Voice
Today is Voice Day, with the aim of raising awareness about the importance of voice care and the prevention of vocal problems. The date was created in 1999 in Brazil and, later, adopted worldwide, highlighting the relevance of the voice for communication, work and quality of life.
The voice is essential for professionals such as teachers, singers, actors and speakers, but anyone can suffer from vocal dysfunctions due to improper use, overexertion or diseases such as nodules and chronic hoarseness. The campaign for the date encourages healthy habits, such as hydration, vocal rest and medical follow-up with speech therapists and otolaryngologists.
On April 16th, several institutions promote lectures, free exams and educational activities to raise awareness about vocal health. World Voice Day reinforces the need for preventive care, ensuring that this essential instrument for communication remains healthy throughout life.
