April 13th is Youth
April 13th is Youth Day in Brazil, a date dedicated to reflecting on the role of youth in society and the importance of recognizing their needs, challenges and potential. The date seeks to highlight the leading role of young people in social, cultural and political transformations, in addition to promoting discussions on public policies aimed at this age group.
The choice of April 13th is related to the Creation of Law No. 8,069/90, known as the Statute of Children and Adolescents (ECA), which aims to guarantee the fundamental rights of young people. Although Youth Day is a celebration of all ages of young people, the date is an opportunity to draw attention to issues such as education, mental health, employment and citizenship.
In schools and institutions, it is common to hold cultural activities, lectures and debates, which seek to engage young people in building a more egalitarian and fair future. Youth Day also serves to remind us of the importance of listening to and supporting the new generations, who are fundamental to the development and renewal of society.
