March 25
March 25, Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade, a day set aside to reflect on the suffering and consequences of slavery and the slave trade that lasted for centuries. The date was chosen in honor of the day of the shipwreck of the ship "Zong" in 1781, in which hundreds of enslaved Africans lost their lives during forced transportation.
This day aims to raise awareness of the atrocities of the transatlantic slave trade, which displaced millions of Africans to the Americas and other parts of the world, as well as to reflect on the social, cultural and economic impacts that slavery still has on contemporary societies.
Through events, lectures, exhibitions and other cultural activities, countries around the world seek to promote dialogue on the fight against racism, discrimination and inequality, as well as preserve the memory of the victims. International Day of Remembrance for Victims of Slavery highlights the importance of learning from history to prevent the repetition of inhumane practices and promote social justice.
