Horloge (or Cogsworth): The Serious Watch
Horloge, known as Cogsworth in the original version, is the castle's butler who was transformed into an enchanted clock due to the curse cast by the witch. With his serious, perfectionist and disciplined manner, he is the opposite of Lumière, the charming candelabra, and their interactions often generate moments of comedy in the film. While Lumière is optimistic and romantic, Cogsworth is meticulous, concerned with the rules and does not like to stray from protocol, which creates a fun dynamic between the two.
His main concern at the beginning of the story is to follow orders to the letter and ensure that everything runs smoothly in the castle. However, he also cares about the Beast's well-being, being an important advisor, albeit in a more cautious and pragmatic way. When it comes to Belle, Cogsworth is hesitant and a bit skeptical about the idea of the Beast falling in love, but over the course of the story, he ends up getting involved in supporting the relationship, even if in his own way.
His funny relationship with Lumière is one of the characteristics that make Cogsworth a captivating and essential figure in the castle's dynamics. Despite his rigid posture, his heart is as big as that of his enchanted friends, and he also goes through a journey of transformation, learning the importance of love and friendship.
