The Epic Story Behind Helm's Deep
The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim is an anime-style animated film directed by Kenji Kamiyama, released in December 2024. The plot is set 183 years before the events of the original trilogy, exploring the story of King Helm Hammerhand of Rohan and the events that led to the construction of Helm's Deep. The narrative is enriched by the participation of Miranda Otto, who returns as Éowyn, serving as the narrator of the story. In addition, the film features the appearance of the character Saruman, although the original voice of Sir Christopher Lee is not present due to his death in 2015. The production is a collaboration between Kenji Kamiyama and executive producers such as Peter Jackson, Philippa Boyens and Fran Walsh, maintaining the connection to the previously established cinematic universe. The choice of the anime style allowed to explore new visual possibilities within Tolkien's universe, offering fans a fresh perspective on the rich mythology of Middle-earth.
