February 13 is Condom Day
February 13 is Condom Day, the day before Valentine's Day in many countries, as a way to raise awareness about the importance of condom use for sexual and reproductive health. The date was created by the AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) to encourage the use of condoms as an effective way to prevent sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including HIV, and also as a contraceptive method.
Why Celebrate?
Condoms are considered one of the most accessible and effective forms of protection during sexual relations. The day aims to:
Promote prevention: Highlighting the importance of condoms in reducing the risk of STIs and unwanted pregnancies.
Break taboos: Encourage open conversations about sexuality and sexual health.
Ensure access: Distribute free condoms in communities around the world.
A Necessary Reflection
The day is an opportunity to highlight that sexual education, access to protective methods and the deconstruction of prejudices are fundamental to guarantee the health and well-being of all.
The day reinforces the message that prevention is the best way to take care of sexual health, promoting a safer and healthier future for all people.
