February 4 is Human Fraternity Day
February 4 is Human Fraternity Day, a date dedicated to promoting solidarity, peaceful coexistence and mutual respect among people of different cultures, religions and ethnicities. The celebration was established by the United Nations (UN) in 2020, in partnership with religious and cultural institutions around the world.
The Origin of the Date
The day was chosen in honor of the signing of the historic Document on Human Fraternity for World Peace and Living Together, on February 4, 2019, by Pope Francis and the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Ahmed el-Tayeb, during a meeting in Abu Dhabi, in the United Arab Emirates. This document is a milestone in interfaith dialogue and the promotion of global harmony.
The UN recognized the importance of this event, stressing that the spirit of fraternity is essential to address global challenges such as conflicts, inequality, discrimination and climate change.
