January 30th
January 30th is Comic Book Day, a date dedicated to recognizing the importance of sequential art in Brazilian and global culture. The date was chosen in honor of the birth of cartoonist Angeli, one of the great names in Brazilian comics, who was born on January 30th, 1956.
Comic books, also known as graphic novels, play a fundamental role in the development of literature and visual arts, being a form of expression that combines narrative, illustration and creativity. In Brazil, comics have won over a large audience over the years, with iconic characters such as Turma da Mônica, created by Mauricio de Sousa, Cavaleiro Negro, Rambo, and many others that have marked generations.
National Comic Book Day is an opportunity to celebrate this art form that, in addition to entertaining, also educates and provokes reflections on society and social problems. The date is marked by events, exhibitions and activities promoted by publishers, bookstores and schools, which seek to spread the importance of comics and encourage new readers and creators.
