January 11th, Pesticide Pollution Control Day
January 11th, Pesticide Pollution Control Day, aims to raise awareness among the population about the risks of inappropriate use of pesticides for human health and the environment. Established by Decree No. 98.816/1990, the date promotes debates on sustainable and alternative agricultural practices, such as agroecology, to reduce dependence on chemical products.
Excessive exposure to pesticides can cause poisoning, serious health problems and contamination of soil and water resources, harming biodiversity. Events and campaigns held on the occasion highlight the importance of public policies to balance agricultural production with environmental preservation and the well-being of society.
