December 2nd is Astronomy
December 2nd is Astronomy Day in Brazil, to honor the science that studies the universe, including planets, stars, galaxies and other celestial bodies. This date was chosen due to the birthday of Dom Pedro II, who was born in 1825 and was passionate about astronomy, receiving the title of patron of Brazilian astronomy. The date was chosen by the Brazilian Astronomy Society, founded in 1947, and the celebration became official with Law No. 13,556, sanctioned on December 21, 2017. Astronomy Day celebrates the work of astronomers, who seek to understand questions about the cosmos and our place in it.
