April 28 is Occupational Safety and Health Day
April 28 is Occupational Safety and Health Day. The date was established in memory of the victims of accidents and occupational diseases, following a tragedy that occurred in 1969, when an explosion in a mine in the United States caused the death of 78 miners. In 2003, the International Labor Organization (ILO) made this date official to reinforce the importance of safety in the workplace.
An occupational disease occurs when a worker becomes ill due to the conditions of their work, such as exposure to chemicals. An accident at work occurs when a professional is injured or loses the ability to perform their job during their work activities.
The main objective of World Day for Safety and Health at Work is to raise awareness and encourage debate on preventive measures to ensure a safer and healthier work environment.
