International Tiger Day is celebrated on July 29th
International Tiger Day is celebrated on July 29th . This day aims to raise awareness about tiger conservation, highlighting the importance of these majestic felines in biodiversity and ecosystems. Tigers face significant threats such as habitat loss, poaching and the trade of body parts for traditional medicine. The date was established during the Saint Petersburg Summit, held in 2010, where leaders of countries with wild tiger populations committed to doubling the number of these animals by 2022, known as the Year of the Tiger. The aim is to protect their natural habitats and strengthen conservation measures to reverse the decline in wild tiger populations.
