Saint Bridget Birgersdotter
Saint Bridget Birgersdotter , better known as Saint Bridget of Sweden , was born on December 15, 1303, in Uppland, Sweden, and died in Rome on July 23, 1373. Daughter of Birger Persson, a nobleman and royal advisor, she married at the age of 14 with Ulf Gudmarsson, with whom he had eight children, including Saint Catherine of Sweden. After her husband's death, she dedicated herself to religious life and the visions and revelations she received. He founded the Order of the Most Holy Savior of Saint Bridget and established a monastery in Vadstena. His views influenced political and religious issues of the time. Canonized in 1391, she is the patron saint of Sweden and co-patron saint of Europe. His day is celebrated on July 23rd .
