In the Second Age of Middle-earth, 19 rings were created by the Elves for healing, building, and understanding, and distributed among the races: three for the Elf-kings, seven for the Dwarf-lords, and nine for Men. In the Third Age, most of the rings were destroyed, leaving only three, which lost their power when the One Ring was destroyed.
