10 Things I Hate About You is a 1999 American romantic comedy film directed by Gil Junger. The film is based on The Taming of the Shrew by author William Shakespeare. Several names used in the film reference the original Shakespearean story. Bianca and Kat's last name is "Stratford" (Shakespere was born in Stratford-upon-Avon). Patric's last name is Verona (town where Petruchio was born). On his first day at his new school, Cameron (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) falls in love with Bianca (Larisa Oleynik). But she will only be able to date boys after Kat (Julia Stiles), her older sister, finds a boyfriend. The problem is that she is insufferable. Cameron then negotiates with the only boy who might be able to date Kat - the mysterious bad-boy Patrick (Heath Ledger). The plot follows the inexplicable love relationship between Kat and Patrick as he takes on the brutal challenges of his school culture to win her heart.
