Astro Boy, or Mighty Atom, is a manga by Osamu Tezuka produced from April 1952 to March 1968, winning several adaptations for television in anime. Because it was the first animated series shown in Japan, it became a reference in the area. Broadcasts began in 1963, with their success giving rise to the Japanese animation industry. The series focuses on the adventures of the title character, "Atom", a powerful robot created by the head of the Ministry of Science, Dr. Tenma, to replace his son Tobio, who had died in a car accident. Astro Boy(Atom) begins to fight crime, evil and injustice. Most of his enemies are human-hating robots. In 2004 Astro Boy was inducted into the Robot Hall of Fame.
