Os Paralamas do Sucesso, also known only as Paralamas, is a Brazilian rock band formed in 1982 in the Rio de Janeiro municipality of Seropédica. The current members are: Herbert Vianna (vocals, guitar), Bi Ribeiro (bass) and João Barone (drums). Initially, the band mixed rock and reggae and later began to add wind instruments and Latin rhythms. The boys rehearsed on a farm in Mendes, Fluminense countryside and also at Bi Ribeiro's grandmother's house. At that time the band gained a name, which according to Herbert, the group held an internal competition to see who could come up with the worst possible name. The first suggestion was “As Cadeirinhas da Vovó”, but Bi (Ribeiro, the band's bassist) had a better idea: “Os Paralamas do Sucesso”, a name that everyone found funny and agreed to assume.
